HC Košice was more active at the beginning and the team has chance for scoring of the opening goal in the minute 1. Hričina received pass from Nagy between the circles but he was not able to hit the area between three posts. Next, the home team was not able to take chance where Petráš missed the HC Zvolen´s net and back barrier was hit. In the minute 11, Pacan deflected the shot in front of Šimko, but he missed by few centimeters. The spectators have to wait for the first goal till minute 12, when HC Zvolen moved to the defending zone of the home team and Kytnár scored the first goal. Before break, Ladislav Nagy attacked the goal-keeper Šimko but he was unsuccessful and score before first break was 0:1.

The beginning of the second period belonged to HC Zvolen and after only 48 seconds the score was increased to two goals. Drgoň scored a goal and the visiting team´s bench was celebrating. However, after a short time American defender Kessel found a receipt how to overcome the goal-keeper Šimko and score was decreased to 1:2.  3 minutes later the score was tied by the Finnish defender Pulli. Just before break, Ďaloga was in a great chance but Habala was ready.  Also Drgoň has his change but he was not able to shot the goal. Score after two periods was therefore even.

Both teams were using defensive tactics at the beginning of the third period to avoid any needless goal.  We had to wait for the first chance till the minute 46, when Suja was very close to the goal, but center from HC Košice hit the goal-keeper Šimko. 20 seconds later HC Zvolen was leading again when Andersons scored a goal. Team from Košice was successful in the minute 57, when Pulli´s powerful shot ended behind Šimko´s back.  After three periods the winner was still unknown, so overtime was necessary.

HC Košice presented several good attacks during the overtime. Shot of Kafka in the minute 65 was the most promising one, but shot of the forward from Czech Republic was not successful.  Finally, the penalty shots were necessary and HC Zvolen was more successful.  And Kytnár scored the decisive goal.

Milan Jančuška, Košice coach: "Today, we conceded two unlucky goals resulting in some kind of "spasm". In spite of that, we were able to tie the score. Pity, that we were not successful during the overtime when we had three excellent chances. Both goal-keepers were excellent today."

Peter Mikula, Zvolen coach: "We knew that match in Košice will be difficult and home team will try to get us under pressure. Finally, we were lucky and had had better score almost all the time. We were successful in the penalty shots and we won thanks to courage and spirit of the whole team."
